Project Overview & Vision

KitShift Car Configurator is a production-ready Unity plugin built at SECTOR4 INTERACTIVE and published on the Unity Asset Store under the publisher name GameReady3D - by Sector4 Interactive. It provides a complete 3D car customization and virtual showroom experience, enabling users to configure vehicle paint colors, swap wheels, modify body parts, and explore custom builds from every angle using cinematic camera controls.

The plugin is designed as a modular, plug-and-play solution that developers can integrate into their own Unity projects — whether for automotive clients, dealership kiosks, mobile configurators, or WebGL-based showroom applications. It features an intuitive inspector-driven setup workflow and is compatible with the Universal Render Pipeline (URP).

My Technical Role & Implementation

As the Unity 3D Developer at SECTOR4 INTERACTIVE, I architected and implemented the full configurator pipeline — from the vehicle part management system to the showroom camera rig and Asset Store publishing:

Real-Time Material Swapping

Developed a dynamic material management system enabling instant paint color changes, metallic/matte finish toggling, and multi-layer material assignments on individual vehicle body panels — all updating in real-time without loading screens.

Modular Part Swap System

Built a ScriptableObject-driven part catalog enabling wheel, spoiler, bumper, and accessory swaps at runtime. Each part variant auto-aligns to mount points with consistent LOD levels and physics-based positioning.

Cinematic Camera System

Implemented orbital, pan, and zoom camera controls with smooth damping, auto-rotation, and cinematic focus transitions. The rig supports touch gestures on mobile and mouse/scroll input on desktop platforms.

Showroom Lighting & Environment

Designed the virtual showroom environment with HDRI reflections, baked global illumination, ground plane reflections, and real-time directional/point lighting to showcase vehicle paint and material finishes with photorealistic quality.

The Configurator Experience

  1. 01

    Vehicle Selection & Showroom Entry

Users browse the vehicle catalog and enter the virtual showroom with the selected model loaded in a professionally lit 3D environment with dynamic reflections.

  2. 02

    Paint & Color Customization

Real-time paint color changes with support for metallic, matte, glossy, and custom shader finishes across individual or grouped body panels — instant visual feedback.

  3. 03

    Wheel, Rim & Part Swapping

Hot-swap wheels, rims, spoilers, bumpers, and accessories from a modular ScriptableObject catalog with automatic mount-point alignment and smooth transitions.

  4. 04

    360° Exploration & Export

Explore the customized vehicle from every angle using cinematic orbital cameras with zoom, pan, and auto-rotate. Cross-platform support for desktop, mobile, and WebGL.
