3D Car Configurator — Toyota My Raize My Way

An interactive 3D WebGL car configurator developed at SECTOR4 INTERACTIVE in partnership withagency Ortmor for Toyota ALJ Motors (Abdul Latheef Jameel) in Saudi Arabia — allowingusers to design their own Toyota Raize with real-time paints, decals, and custom vinyls in a nationwide contestwhere the top 8 winning designs were brought to life on real Toyota Raize vehicles.

Project Case Study & Overview

Objective: To create an interactive 3D configurator for the "My Raize My Way" campaignby Toyota for Abdul Latheef Jameel Motors (ALJ) in Saudi Arabia, allowing users to designtheir own custom Toyota Raize car and enter it into a nationwide competition for a chance to win a trip to Milan and Paris.

Solution: The configurator was built using the Unity 3D engine and was designed to beaccessible directly through a web application via WebGL. The configurator enabled users to change vehicle colors, add decals, vinyls, and text stickers, and provided professional design tools for participants to create their own bespoke wraps.Users could upload their designs directly to the web platform, where other users voted on their favorite creations. The eightentries with the most votes were chosen as finalists, and their actual designs were physically applied to eight real ToyotaRaize cars.

Results & Impact: The "My Raize My Way" campaign was a huge success, generating exceptional engagement andparticipation. The 3D interactive configurator empowered users to express their creativity on the Toyota Raize, while thecompetition element added high viral motivation. The eight finalists were awarded trips to Milan and Paris, and the physicallywrapped vehicles became the centerpiece of Toyota's regional marketing tour.

My Technical Role & Implementation

As the Unity 3D Developer, I was responsible for developing the interactive 3D configurator, custom shaderpipeline, decal projection system, and WebGL web integration:

Multi-Layer Automotive Shaders

Developed custom automotive PBR shaders with dual-tone paint parameters, clearcoat reflections, metallic flakes, and glossy pearlescent finishes for both body and roof elements.

Real-Time Decal & Vinyl Projection

Implemented a flexible runtime decal projection system enabling users to place, rotate, scale, and colorize vinylgraphics, motorsport stripes, patterns, and custom text stickers over complex car surfaces.

Unity WebGL Performance Optimization

Optimized geometry, LOD meshes, and texture memory to ensure ultra-fast initial load times and smooth 60 FPSrendering in modern web browsers without requiring plugins or native installs.

WebGL-to-Web Contest Integration

Built two-way JavaScript communication between Unity WebGL and the web platform, serializing vehicle configurationdata, capturing high-resolution render snapshots, and submitting entries for public voting.

Interactive User Journey

How users engaged with the "My Raize My Way" digital contest from conception to real-world vehicle execution:

1

Launch 3D WebGL Configurator

Participants access the contest web page and launch the interactive 3D Toyota Raize studio directly in their browser.

2

Customize Paints, Roof & Wheels

Select custom metallic and dual-tone colors, alloy wheel designs, tinted windows, and trim finishes with real-time 360° camera orbit.

3

Design Decals, Vinyls & Text Wraps

Apply graphic decals, sponsor badges, geometric vinyl patterns, and personalized typography onto the vehicle body panels.

4

Submit to Contest & Vote

Generate render snapshots, submit the customized car to the online gallery, and rally votes to win trips to Milan and Paris with designs physically wrapped on real cars.
